She was an international star in 1976 when she made the most perfect ever 10 on the asymmetric bar during the Montreal Olympic Games. Adding to this her score, she added six more perfect tens. She also became the most youthful Olympic gold medallist. Nadia Comaneci was able at attracting international attention to help Romania to establish itself on the world map. By achieving a score that was unattainable, this sporting icon brought gymnastics to the forefront of global attention. Moreover, it changed the people's perspective of female athletes. The effect of her performances at the Olympics is significant enough that the toe movement (release) and the toe step were both named for her in the event uneven bars. Apart from the Olympics, she showed remarkable results at her participation in the World Championships and European Championships and was subsequently a living legend in the sport and amongst the best-known gymnasts the world could ever have.
